Correctly understood, pastoral ministry is a multi-disciplinary vocation. In addition to theological and spiritual leadership; it requires competency in philosophy, education, psychology, organizational leadership, and administration, as well as a degree of cultural intelligence tempered with equal measures of vision and compassion.

Okeechobee Christian Academy, Okeechobee FL
Headmaster/ Bible and Philosophy Teacher, (August 2007-July 2009)
As the headmaster of OCA, I had primary administrative, educational and pastoral oversight of the K3 – 12th academy and was charged by the OCA Board with the responsibility of the total academy program including the daily operations of the academy, finances, fundraising and public relations. In my time as headmaster, I led the navigation of the transition from being a parochial school to becoming an independent one, I oversaw the expansion of the Middle school and High school program, and I taught the 6th-12th bible and philosophy classes. What is more, there were numerous renovations to the campus that occurred over and above, due to generous donations of time and talent by those in our community. In addition to these things, I worked with the local ministerial association. I wrote editorials for the local newspaper. I was invited to speak at gatherings of such groups as the Rotary and the local Pregnancy Center. I was able to do some preaching at area churches and taught several workshops on things like inductive bible study and worldview. I occasionally performed chaplain duties for the local public school board and city council and started an inter-denominational Christian Leadership Network of local Businessmen and civil servants who met monthly for prayer regarding the needs of the community.
Community Evangelical Methodist Church, Thomasville NC
Senior Pastor, (January 2006-April 2007)
In addition to doing the regular things pastors do, I had the opportunity to see the church move towards greater community involvement. We established a partnership with a local inter-denominational ministry that provided food, clothing, financial, and other forms of assistance for people in need as well as getting the church set up as an Angel Food Ministries provider.
Bannertown Wesleyan Church, Mt. Airy NC
Bi-Vocational Senior Pastor, (January 2005-June 2005)
As I was finishing my undergraduate work I took a position as the senior pastor of a small Wesleyan Church in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. Unfortunately, the joy of this pastorate was short lived because after several months there I began to receive notices from the state regarding fines owed for having lead and copper in the church water system from several years prior when they had been operating a daycare. As I dug into the situation I was unsettled to discover that money was owed not only to the state but also to the IRS for unpaid employee taxes and to several private institutions in amounts that totaled far more than was feasible for the church to pay. Shortly thereafter the IRS froze the church’s accounts and I knew I had to find a solution quickly. Another Wesleyan church in the community had outgrown its facilities and was in desperate need of a new meeting space. So I worked with the Pastor to orchestrate a merger of the two churches into one.
