Psalm 3

Psalm 3

[A Psalm of David written when he was fleeing from his son Absalom (2 Samuel 15-18)]

YHWH, my enemies have multiplied;
there are so many who are rising up against me.
So many are demeaning my Way of Life boasting, (Psalm 1)
“There is no Salvation of YHWH for him in Elohiym!” (Deuteronomy 32:39)

But You, YHWH, are my defense;
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I raised my voice and cried out to YHWH;
He answered me from his holy mountain. (Psalm 2:4-6)

I laid down to rest and slept soundly, I awoke refreshed,
for YHWH sustains me.  (Isaiah 40:12-31)
I will not be terrified by ten thousand adversaries,
who have set themselves against me on every side. (Leviticus 26:6-8)

Rise up YHWH!  Save me, Elohiym!  Strike my enemies in the face!
Shatter the teeth of those who are hostile towards You! (Psalm 2:9)
For the Salvation of YHWH can only come from YHWH:
And Your blessing is upon Your people. (Deuteronomy 7:9-10)

Lord God – Adonai Elohiym,

So many times it seems like adversity comes at us from out of nowhere and instead of finding encouragement we are discouraged on every side, told that we can not rely on Your help.  These negative voices demean our Faith and our life choices as the foolish wistfulness of naive childhood fantasy.  But we declare today that You alone are our defense, our only hope and the only thing that matters when the chips are down.  It is Your covenant faithfulness that strengthens and sustains us in every circumstance.  In You we find Rest and Peace, in You we are more than Victors.  For You remove the adversary, You pay back evil and wrong doing on those who hate You and who hate Your People because of their hatred for You.  Justice belongs to You alone to rescue and to save, to condemn and to punish.  Forgive us for when we doubt Your Love and Faithfulness, and help us to live each day in the blessings of Your covenant.

In the Name of the Father of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN.
